Anaphylaxis / Severe Allergic Reaction

A life-threatening allergic reaction that can develop within minutes of exposure to a trigger — food, insect sting, medication, or latex. Airways can close rapidly.

Broken Jaw / Facial Fracture

A suspected fracture of the jaw or facial bones following trauma, accident, or assault.

Choking / Airway Obstruction

An object is blocking the airway preventing normal breathing. Can be partial or complete obstruction.

Drowning / Near-Drowning

Drowning can be silent and fast. A person who has been submerged in water, even if conscious and breathing, requires immediate assessment.

Emergency Childbirth

A baby arriving before medical help is available. Most straightforward births can be safely guided with calm, clear steps.

Fractures / Broken Bones

A complete or partial break in a bone, usually caused by trauma, fall, or impact. Can be closed (skin intact) or open (bone visible through skin).

Rabies Exposure — Animal Bite Management

Rabies is almost universally fatal once symptoms develop. However it is completely preventable if post-exposure treatment is started promptly after a bite. Time is critical — do not wait.

Seizure / Convulsions

Sudden uncontrolled electrical activity in the brain causing shaking, stiffness, or loss of consciousness. Common in children with high fever and in people with epilepsy.

Uncontrolled bleeding that will not stop on its own.

Burns destroy skin and tissue from heat, chemicals, electricity, or radiation. Severity depends on depth and how much of the body is affected.

Snake Envenomation / Animal Bite

A bite from a venomous snake or animal requiring urgent management. Africa has some of the world's most venomous snakes including black mamba, puff adder, spitting cobra, and boomslang.

Stroke / Brain Attack

A stroke occurs when blood supply to part of the brain is cut off. Brain cells die within minutes. Immediate action dramatically improves survival and reduces permanent disability. Every minute matters.

Suspected Cardiac Event / Heart Attack

A heart attack occurs when blood supply to the heart muscle is blocked. Every minute without treatment increases damage. Act immediately.

Tetanus — Wound Management & Prevention

A life-threatening bacterial infection caused by Clostridium tetani entering through wounds. Preventable by vaccination. Once symptoms develop, it is a medical emergency with high mortality without hospital treatment.

Traumatic Head Injury / Concussion

Any impact to the head from a fall, accident, or assault. Even injuries that appear minor can cause serious internal bleeding.
